As the weather improves so the numbers increase with over 200 playing on Saturday in the Monthly Medal and the 1st qualifying round of the Old Club Trophy.

With an excellent 2 under par 67 Neil Panton had a welcome return to form as he won the Scratch Class and is the leader in the Old Club Trophy. After a bogey at the first Neil had birdies at 5, 6, 8 and 12 before dropping his only other shot at 15.

The First Class was won by Stuart McDonald (9) on 64 with birdies at 4, 5 and 10, bogeys at 9, 12, 14, 16, and 18 with a sole double bogey at 2. Second on 65 was Stuart Foster (9) who birdied 4, had bogeys at 1, 2, 5 and 6 and then after a run of 11 pars double bogeyed the last. In third place was Alan Murray (6) on 66 with birdies at 4, 5 and 17 and bogeys at 3, 9, 11, 12, 13 and 14. Alan Kerr (10) edged fourth place on Ian MacDonald (9) with the Better Last Three on 67.

Alan Ross (16) won the Second Class on 66 ahead of three players on 68. Second place went to Ron Turner (16) with the Best Last Six Holes edging Stewart Taylor (11) into third place with a Better Inward Half than Robert Weir (13) in fourth place, despite Stewart and Robert both having a birdie 2 at 11.

The Third Class saw 4 players return 66 but in first place, with what could be his first ever success, was Robert Turnbull (28) thanks to the Best Inward Half. Second place went to Colin Beattie (25) again with a Better Inward Half than Cameron Ritchie (21) who in turn had a Better Inward Half than Gordon Raw (20).

Next Saturday will be the Spring Meeting alongside the 2nd round of the Old Club Trophy. In addition the qualifying for the Belhaven Best will take place with the players with the top two net scores proceeding to represent the Club at the Regional Final at Forfar in August.

Members are reminded to ensure their ties in the KO competitions are organised and played by the final date – no extensions of time will be given.

The Hydro Cup will be played on Saturday 17th May and there will be a social with a dinner and entertainment in the evening. Tickets available at the bar.

LADIES

Monday, 5 May

 

The Young Cup 2nd Round and Medal was played last Tuesday. Cecilia Kenny had the best scratch score of 81 and Kathleen Booth had a 93 gross in the Bronze division.
Results: Silver C Kenny 81-6-75. N McLaren 93-18-75. H Wynd 91-16-75.
Bronze: M Gardner 97-27-70. K Booth 93-23-70. N Donald 101-30 -71.

The 16 ladies who qualified for the Young Cup will find draws and dates when matches should be played by on the notice board in the locker room.
