Saturday Medals
Saturday medals can be entered by completing an entry card in the Professional's Shop on the preceding Saturday. Up to THREE names can be entered on a single card, which must also have a preferred starting time.
Friday Medals
A number of competitions have been extended to cover Friday and Saturday and are detailed in the Fixture List. It is possible further Friday and Saturday competitions will be arranged subject to the pressure on the course on the Friday and details will be posted on the noticeboard.

Club Knockout Competition Rules
Draws for Knockout Competitions are posted on the Notice Board immediately after entry closes, or after any qualifying competition.
Both parties are responsible for arranging any tie.
When challenging, parties must offer, by the challenge date posted on the board, three dates in two separate weeks, one of which must be a weekend date. At least one weeks notice of any date must be given.
Failure to comply with this rule will result in both parties being excluded from this competition.
Ballot Draws will be held for the Club Championship and the Kirkland Trophy Qualifying Rounds (see fixture sheet)

Gents Competitions - 2010 Abernethy Trophy – Best 8 net scores from all unrestricted Medals. A.G. Kinnes Invitation (08/08/10) - In memory of a former Match Secretary, this competition is now a Four-Ball Better Ball format and is open to Dunblane Members (Ladies and Gents) and their guest partners from other golf clubs. Alexander Trophy (07/06/10) - This trophy is for Foursomes competition by Adult/Junior pairings, and was donated by the Stirling Steel Stockholding Company. Partnerships are drawn from the Adult and Junior entry lists and compete over one medal round. Arnold McCulloch (Qual.12/05/10) - This trophy was donated by a local shopkeeper who could not play on Saturdays and thus qualify for Match Play competitions. His only condition was that the qualifying round was to be held on a Wednesday. The best 32 handicap scores from the qualifying Wednesday Medal go into a Match Play competition. Ballantine Medal (30/05/10) - Arguably one of the most prestigious of the Club’s competitions. It is played over 36 holes, and has an upper handicap limit of 14. The Medal itself is awarded for the best 36-hole scratch aggregate, but there are also handicap prize categories. British Legion Trophy (25/09/10) - An 18-hole handicap Stroke Play competition Boyd Trophy – Family foursomes knockout competition where the pairings have to be blood relatives or husband and wife. Entry to be made in competition book by 12/04/10. Bryce Cup - Mixed foursomes knockout competition. Entry to be made in competition book by 12/04/10. Captain’s Prize (Qual. 17/04/10) Clapperton Trophy - This is the Club’s largest Gents’ handicap Match Play competition and a prize is awarded by the Club Captain. The best 64 handicap scores from the qualifying Saturday Medal proceed to the knockout stages.
Club Championship & Kirkland Trophy (Quals.12 & 13/06/10, Knockouts 14-17/06/10, Finals 19/06/10) - These are the Club’s major Scratch and Handicap competitions. The best 16 aggregate scratch scores from the two qualifying Medal competitions qualify for the Club Championship, while the best 16 remaining aggregate handicap scores compete for the Kirkland Trophy. The qualifiers then play in seeded knockout match play on evenings during the succeeding week. The finals are played on the following Saturday, alongside the other Club finals – the Ladies Championship and the Junior Championships.
Dewar Trophy (12 & 13/06/10) – Awarded for the best 36 hole net aggregate in the qualifying rounds for the Club Championship and Kirkland Trophy. Dobie Trophy (12/09/10) - Foursomes handicap Stroke Play for Husband/Wife partnerships. Donated, with their unique sense of humour, by Hugh and Chris Dobie. Drysdale Salver – Best 2 net scores from the Spring, Summer and Autumn meetings. Ford Trophy – Best 4 net scores from the 7 Saturday Monthly Medals, April to October. Hydro Cup (Gents 15/05/10) - This is an 18-hole Stroke Play competition open to both Ladies and Gents. Infirmary Trophy (31/07/10) - An 18-hole handicap Stroke Play competition. John Wilson Greensome (29/05/10) - This Greensome competition is open to Ladies and Gents playing in any combination and is played for a trophy donated by a distinguished past champion and captain. Kippendavie Open (04/07/10) - This is a Gents’ Open Competition and the player with the best net score wins the Trophy. Scratch prizes are also awarded. Louis Pope Memorial Trophy - This trophy was presented to commemorate Louis Pope. The competition is a fourball better ball knockout. Entry to be made in competition book by 12/04/10. McNeill Cup – Gents’ foursomes knockout competition. Entry to be made in competition book by 12/04/10. Medal Final (02/10/10) – The winners of each class in nominated Medals during the season qualify to play in the Medal Final. Millennium Medal (27/03/10) – Presented by Stirlingshire Golf Union to commemorate the Millennium. Muirhead Memorial Trophy (14/07/10) – Donated by Helen Muirhead in memory of her husband, Alistair, and presented to the winner of the Seniors Open. Observer Trophy (28/08/10) - This is a popular Open Mixed Foursomes Competition and the entry sheet fills up very quickly. The first date for entry is included in this fixture diary. Ochlochy Quaich (Gents 09/06/10) - Donated by Ross and Anne Hood, it is awarded for the best handicap Stroke Play score, Ladies or Gents, returned in their separate 5-Club competitions. Old Club Trophy (O.C.T.) (01 & 08/05/10) - This is a scratch Match Play competition, contested by the best 16 aggregate scratch scores from the two qualifying medals. R. S. Erskine Quaich (22/05/10) – This is a Handicap Stroke Play competition which will incorporate a Team event with the best 2 scores of the three players counting at each hole. The day will be sponsored by R. S. Erskine (Optometrists). Seniors’ Championship (Qual. 26/06/10) - Exclusively for the 55 and over, this competition comprises both a scratch and handicap Match Play competition with qualifiers selected from the best 16 scratch and handicap scores from the qualifying Medal. Stroke Play Championship (07 & 14/08/10 and 04/09/10) - This is one of the Club’s Majors, and is played over four rounds. The player with the best 72-hole scratch aggregate is the Club Stroke Play Champion and receives the Martin Trophy which was presented by A Martin, the brother of the first Club Champion, R. Martin. Tait Trophy (24/04/10) - This competition is an 18-hole Stroke Play competition for Gents with handicaps of 15 and above, and is in memory of a former member who was himself in this handicap category.
Texas Scramble (20/06/10) - This is essentially a fun competition for all categories - Gents, Ladies and Juniors - with teams of four all playing tee shots at each hole. They then decide which ball is best-placed and all four play their next shots from that spot. Play continues in the same manner until a ball is holed out. There is a requirement that every team member’s tee shot must be selected for subsequent play on a minimum number of occasions during the round (e.g. three times). W.C. Jug (14 & 21/08/10) – Donated by Past Captains, Alex Wilson and John Connolly, hence the name, this trophy is awarded for the best 36-hole handicap score.
LADIES COMPETITIONS 2010 Captain’s Prize (04/05/10) - Awarded by the current Ladies’ Captain to the best Silver and Bronze handicap scores. Chinese Bowl (25/05/10) - Best 8 net scores qualify for knockout competition. Craig Cup (Qual. 01 & 08/06/10, Knockouts 15 & 17/06/09, Final 19/06/10). Donated by the first Chairman of the Club, James S Craig, in 1923. It is the Championship Cup – the best eight scratch scores qualify for a seeded knockout competition. Dunallan Quaich - This is our oldest trophy dating from 1922. It is a knockout competition with no qualifying round. Dunblane Ladies Cup - Awarded to the Lady with the best 3 scratch scores from the Charity Medal, the first round of the Craig Cup and the Summer Meeting. Hairways Trophy (06/07/10) - First presented by Dave Faheilly in 1970 and now played over one round. The winner is the best handicap score. Hastie Trophy (Qual. 01 & 08/06/10, Knockouts 10 & 14/06/10, Final 16/06/10) - Presented by Kay Hastie and now regarded as the Bronze Championship – 8 scratch qualifiers play in a seeded knockout competition. Hydro Cup (Ladies 11/05/10) - This is an 18-hole Stroke Play competition open to both Ladies and Gents. Kathleen Smith Trophy - Presented in 1972 in honour of Kathleen’s outstanding achievement of winning the Craig Cup 20 times. It is won by the player with the best 8 net scores from 16 designated competitions. Laighill Quaich – Presented in 1983 by Margaret Brown for Foursomes knockout. The winners go on to represent the club in the Daily Mail Foursomes national competition. Millennium Quaich - Presented in 2000 by Moira Leslie and from 2007 will be awarded to the winners of a fourball better ball knock out competition. Monty Trophy (15/08/10) – Presented in 1997 by Jill Montgomery to encourage contact between the Ladies and the Juniors. A Greensomes competition with a Lady partnered by a Junior. Nancy McLaren Stableford Pairs Trophy (07/09/10) – Presented by Nancy McLaren in 2008. Newton Trophy (27/07/10) – Presented by Margaret Niven in 1990 and better known as the Granny Cup. Best net score for those who are Grans. Ochlochy Quaich (Ladies 18/05/10) - Donated by Ross and Anne Hood, it is awarded for the best handicap Stroke Play score, Ladies or Gents, returned in their separate 5-Club competitions. Rosebowl - Another old trophy and a handicap knockout competition. Seniors’ Qualifying (22/06/10) - Played in two sections for those over 55 years
Kilbryde Cup - 8 best scratch qualifiers then knockout. Kilbryde Salver – 8 best handicap qualifiers then knockout. The Stableford Trophy (31/08/2010) – Presented in 2009 by Maggie Gardner to replace the “Egg Cup”. Thomas Trophy - Presented by Hannan Thomas in 1965 and awarded to the player with the two best net scores from the Spring, Summer and Autumn meetings.
Young Cup (Qual. 20 & 27/04/10) - Donated by Sadie Young and, from 2007 there will be 2 qualifying rounds but only one score will count. 16 qualifiers on handicap followed by a seeded knockout draw with the qualifiers arranging the times and dates of their own ties with a final on Sunday 16 May 2010. Other Trophies for which Ladies can compete are included in the List of Competitions for 2010.
VETS’ COMPETITIONS 2010 Ellis Parry Trophy - A Gents’ Singles matchplay competition open to members of 60 years and over. Dryerre Cup - A Veterans’ Mixed Foursomes competition open to Ladies and Gents of 60 years and over. Kelly-White Quaich - A Veterans’ Gents’ Foursomes competition open to members of 60 years and over.
JUNIOR COMPETITIONS 2010 Aitken Medal - Presented by Gary Aitken in 1996 and awarded to the best Net Score over 2 Medal rounds. Dunblane Centre Trophy - Presented by Dunblane Centre in 2005 in recognition of the funds raised from a golf day and used towards fitting out the Centre. Awarded to the winner of the Order of Merit. Hay Shield - Presented in 1948 by Robert Hay and awarded to the Junior Club Champion. Graham J Hood Memorial Trophy - Presented in 2009 by Ross and Anne Hood in memory of their son, Graham, who started his golfing life as a Junior at Dunblane New. Awarded to the best Scratch Score on the day. There will also be a trophy for the best Net Score. Hydro Disco Cup - Played for since 1978 and awarded for the best 6 Net Scores from all unrestricted Medals. Lister A Watson Trophy - Presented in 2007 in memory of Lister Watson who always took a keen interest in the Junior Section. Awarded to the Junior Handicap Club Champion. Martin Memorial Trophy - Presented in 1989 and awarded to the Junior who has achieved the greatest reduction in handicap in the course of the season. Sweden Trophy - Presented in 1978 and awarded to the winner of the Match Play competition. Wickie Shield - Presented in 1981 this is awarded to the Stroke Play Champion based on the best 3 Scratch Scores from 4 counting Medals. There is also a Trophy for the best 3 Net Scores from the 4 counting Medals. There are also trophies for the Junior Foursomes Match Play and for the best 2 Net Scores from the Spring, Summer and Autumn Meetings.
